Papers to hand to-day show that on the posting of the weights for the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup. Amiable was elected to the position of favourite for the Newmarket Handicap, with the best price against.her 10 to' I, and the double of Amiable and Aurum was backed at.lOO to Ito win about £2,000. For the Newmarket Handicap the chief mediums were Amiable, Tarquin, and Loch Marie. 100 to 6 was taken about Amiab'.e to. win several thousands-with more wanted iit"the price. Tarquin was in request atlOO to 5, and the same price was taken freely about Loch Marie.
