LORD HAMPDEN'S TOUR.

SYDNEY, January 23.

Viscount Hampden speaks delightedly of his New Zealand trip. Asked by an interviewer what was the effect of the cidvanced legislation, he replied that, so far as he could see, the people seemed none the worst for it.

Governor Hampden says further that the thrifty character of the New Zealilnders stands them in good stead. Looking at the people- as a-whole, without pretending to examine beneath the surface, they appeared to be having a prosperous time.
