WOOL SALES.

SECOND OF THE SEASON

To-day the second series of wool sales of the season took place at the Wool Exchange, Queen-street, commencing at 9 o'clock. There was a good attendance of buyers :at each sale. In all 4,703 bales of wool were catalogued, and' most of

these were disposed of at the auction. The wool was distributed as follows amongst the several firms selling:— Hunter and Nolan, 931 bales; G. W. Binney and Sons, 818 bales ; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), 1,583; Alfred Auckland and Sons, 1,431: total, 4,763. The following were the principal buyers present:—Messrs Murgatroyd, Price, Warnoek, Ireland, Donald, Slator, Wood, Sutherland and Parker.

Messrs Hunter and Nolan held their sale first, and sold 84(5 bales out of their 931. The prices obtained for coarser wools were lower by about .]d per lb than last year's sales. Finer wools realised about the same as the last sales. Lambswool dropped heavily, there being a fall of from Id to l ; fd per lb,'as compared with last year's values. The following were the l'nling prices obtained : Crossbreds, s^d to 7^d per lb ; longwools, 4^,-d to Gid per lb; merinos, 4hd to s|d ; lambs' woof, 4kl to 5J per lb. Messrs G. W. Binney and Sons sold G3O bales out of 832 catalogued. Good wools brought about the same price as last year ; inferior wools Jd easier. The highest prices realised were 7d to 7^d for crossbreds. The bulk of crossbred and longwool fetched from about 6id to 6£d per lb. There was a considerable fall in lambswool, the best being 6^d and inferior lots 6^d to sd. Merinos, inferior realised oid. Docks, pieces and bellies caused brisk competition, and sold freely at Hd for daggy lots to 5Jd for good pieces.
