The parishioners of St. Benedict's had taken steps for the erection of a school and hall whereby they would accomplish a two-fold end, viz., provide a suitable place to carry on the great work of education of children and allbrd a source of attraction to the youth of the parish and district by furnishing a hall where lawful amusements and pleasures could be indulged in tiutlci the immediate supervision of the ciergy. The success of the work was ensured by the high aims which prompted it. I lis Lordship congratulated the people of Newton on their work and as a mark of approbation oll'ered a donation of £10, which sum, added to that subscribed by those present, amounted to £,55.
