To somo people this phrase, recently seen in the cables from England, conveys the idea that there is a malediction about Mr Chamberlln's intentions regarding foreign nations. It is not quite so severe as that. It means that he will give notice that the "most favoured nation" clause they now enjoy in**- their Commercial Treaty with England will be terminated, and that the colonies will be permitted, if they choose, to charge higher duties on foreign than on British goods. For instance, the majority of the pianos imported come from the Continent.
