CHARGES AGAINST A CABINET MINISTER.
SYDNEY, December 25,
An action for criminal libel against John Norton, editor of " Truth," and George Lonsdale is being tried at Armiclale. The action arises out of an accusation made in "Truth" against the Hon. J. H. Carruthers, Minister of Lands, in connection with certain land transactions. A sensational phase was given to the case by one of Norton's witnesses, a woman, making an allegation of immorality against Mr Carruthers. The Judge prohibited the publication of the evidence till the other side was heard.
