A.R.C. SUMMER MEETING.

THIS MORNING'S TRAINING

NOTES,

The doings at Ellerslie in the early mornings are now of an important character, and after the arrival of Waiuku to-morrow, and Mr Stead's crack team on Thursday, they will be of still greater interest. This morning St. Paul made his way over two miles, Markinch being with him in the first part, and Knight of Athol in the other. As usual tUe Cup favourite shaped well throughout. Daystar cast a strongly run mile behind him alone, being then attended on by tbe speedy St. Elmo, the pair rattling over another mile. Daystar's gallop had a good deal to recommend it, for he went in particularly good style. Panoply and An tares were apportioned _ a mission of a mile and three-quarters, in which they shaped Avell. The very much improved Cup candidate Coronet strode over one and a-quarter mile in splendid style. The Champagne Stakes candidate Dayntree (by Castor—Vivandiere) proved too good for Hermosa and another over five furlongs, compassed at top. The 'chasers Mozel and Conscript were each indulged in long striding Avork. "KingsAvood traversed a couple of rounds at three-quarter pace. This horse and Levanter were jumped over the steeplechase fences yester' day morning, both shaping well. Waiorongomai and Dorrit made .their way over a circuit at top. The Cup candidate Nestor cut out a mile and a half, having Miss Nelson with him. Nor'-West, who is in great heart, had Flukem for a companion in schooling work. Both cleared the " small sticks" in a manner which delighted the onlookers. Sabretache cast a strongly run 1$ miles behind him. Lillie was with him in the first part and Lady Cuisine in the other. The performance had nothing to recommend it, and it failed to please the onlookers. The other Avork done was of an unimportant character. In consequence of Daystar's improved Avork on the training track and support accorded him, he is now quoted at 5 to 1 for the Cup. h>t. Paul remains the favourite, while Coronet meets with occasional support in small lines. To-day Blarney was scratched for all engagements at the A.Ii.C. Summer Meeting.
