WELLINGTON, this day.

This morning Detective Campbell went to a boarding-house in Dixon-street to arrest a young man named E. A. Hughes, aged 22, on a charge of stealing a bicycle from the Public Library on December 2nd. Hughes was only partly dressed, and on the plea of getting his clothes, slipped into a wardrobe and shot himself through, the ear with a revolver. He -was removed to the hospital, but cannot live. Hughes had been a waiter. He was known to be hard UP- ______
