v The ordinary meeting of the Auckland University College Council was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present: The Primate, Bishop Cowie (presiding), Messrs P. Dignan (Mayor), S. Luke (Chairman of the Board of Education), G. L. Peacocke, Jackson Palmer, and McLaurin,
The report of the examiners on music "ttas read. The examiners stated that the examinations were inosfc satisfactory, the candidates showing gratifying proficiency, and in two cases the maximum 'number of marks was awarded. The report of the Committee regarding the award of the premium in classics was read. The Cofiiroittee recommended that no premium ■* granted this year, and that the regulations be altered so as to allow the professors to take general progress and conduct during the year into consideration. It was decided to grant two sums of £45 and £50 to Professor Brown for the purpose of renewing the physical and chemical apparatus "in the laboratory. Herr Carl Schmitt was re-appointed lecturer in music tor the coming year. It was decided to pise the remuneration of M. de Mohtalk, Iwtufer in French, to £100, on account of the increased number of students and the satisfactory progress made.
