THE BARE MAJORITY.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Allow me to congratulate Mr F. Lawry on his conversion to the equity of applying the principle of the Parliament* ary majority to the local option vote. Possibly with, Mr Lawry's assistance the reform may be secured, thus settling a long standing demand according to liberal principles. No one knows better than Mr F. Lawry that the prohibition party will not be a party to sanctioning the residents of one licensing district deciding the question of; another district one hundred miles away. "When a workable national option, la-vv is given the nation can decide. But if Mr Lawry and the party he represents with such ability admit the justice of the majority vote, I can assure him of our hearty co-operation.—l am, etc R. French. November 4th, 1597
