HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr J. Bollard | (Chairman) presiding

Medical Officer's Report.— The medical officer reported thafc during the month of October 43 new cases were under treatment besides the large number of chronic cases on the books. The average daily attendance at the dispensary was 14, and jiumber of prescriptions compounded 475. Auction Work.—An application from Mr H. Newcombe for a share of the Board's auction work was referred to the Public Trustee.

Fees. — The Coromandel Board wrote claiming £4913s fees for 15 patients treated At the Coromandel Hospital.—Mr Garland said some of the claims were two years old. —On the motion of the Chairman consideration was deferred for a month to doable inquiries to be made. Children's Hospital. — Mr Bartley, ■xcbitect, wrote that he was unable to place before the Board the tenders for the Children's Hospital. The time Was too short.—lt was resolved that the time be extended for a fortnight. Charitable Aid Committee.—The Charitable Aid Committee reported four admissions to the Co3tley Home subject to the approval of the Board. Two cases were submitted for the Board's consideration— a woman aged 73 and a man aged 80.—The report was adopted as a whole. A Complaint.—Mr James Davis wrote complaining that he went to the Hospital, having been recommended for admission by Dr. King. He alleged that he was not Attended to and then decided to leave. He requested, an inquiry into the matter. The Medical Superintendent reported there was bo urgency in the case, and Davis was only left while more pressing cases were being attended to.—lt was decided to send Mr Davis a copy of the letter from the Medical Superintendent. Hospital.—The report of the Medical Superintendent stated that five patients had died during the fortnight ending November 6th. Three cases of scarlatina iand one case of erysipelas were under treatment. There were 94 males and 36 females in the Hospital

Oostley Home.—A complaint against an employee of the Costlev Home from Mr Moss for neglecting his duty was read. On the motion of the Chairman it was resolved that the man be dismissed. The manager Reported the number of inmates at the Home to be 118 men and 50 women.

Endowments. —The committee appointed to inspect the Hospital endowments at Northcote recommended that the Public Trustee be requested to reduce the rentals of Messrs M. Slattery, S. Hulbert, M. Parrish, E. J. White, L. S. Maxwell, and C. W. Sanders for a further term of five years, the redaction to be 50 per cent.—Mr Lennox opposed any reduction. He said the population was increasing and rents had gone tip 50 per cent. Let the endowments be tarrenaered.— Mr Bruce spoke in favour of ih& Committee's report.—The committee's tenort was then adopted on division. The Lake Orphanage.—The Chairman reported that the Committee had visited the Roman Catholic Orphanage at Lake Takapuna and had found the Board children boarded out there clean and well looked after,

Standing Orders.—Mr Gordon moved, "That standing order No. 1 be amended as follows:—Leaving out ' unanimous vote of the members present' and insert the following words—' votes of not less than half the members present' instead, and if passed that standing order No. 17 be altered accordingly."—The motion was lost.

Salaries.—Mr Gordon moved, " That in future it shall be an order of the Board that the salaries of all officers and servants ai the Board shall be reviewed at the first meeting held in the "month of March of each year, and all such officers and servants shall hold their appointments subject to this provision."—The motion was carried.

Nursing Staff.—Mr Gordon brought up the question of the Auckland Hospital Staff and the reason ef so many nurses resigning their positions. He spoke in favour of a more searching investigation, and moved for a further inquiry. On being put to the meeting, the motion only met with the support of the mover. • Thanks to the Chairman.—Mr Warren moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr J. Stichbnry for the manner in which he had filled the office of Chairman during the year. The mover spoke in flattering tones Of Mr Stichbury and the manner in which he had carried out his duties, sparing neither time or trouble. Other members spoke in support and the motion was unanimously carried.
