DUNEDIN, Wednesday. ? At the meeting of the Synod to-night the question of union with the Northern Church came up. The report of. the com. mittee showed that four Presbyteries representing 27 congregations, were in favot» of the proposed basis, and two, represents 15 congregations, were unfavourable Forty sessions out of 65 also adopted the basis as sent down with immaterial alterations. Mr Gibb moved to receive the report and proceed to consider seriatim the articles and basis of union. Hespojceafc length in support of the motion, which was seconded by Dr. Dunlop. The .Rev. E. 11 Sutherland moved an amendment to the effect that the Synod declare its conviction that it is not expedient to prosecute.the present enterprise any further, and therefore pass from the proposals. The.liev. McCosh Smith seconded the amendment! The debate was adjourned .till Monday. ■,
