CORRESPONDENCE.

MR WALKER'S LETTER m SUPPLYING LIQUOB TO * THE NATIVES.'

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Kindly allow me to offer an ex planation why Rev. E. Walker's letter die not appear in the fortnightly issue of th# " Prohibitionist." Both editors have be™ absent from the colony r-ome two months! and it was distinctly stated that a? correspondence relating- to the recent division in our ranks should appear from either aide. Mr Frank Isitt (one of th« editors, his brother is in England) left Auckland for Wellington on Monday week, so he would not see Mr Walker's lett« much sooner than you did, and it would fee very unlikely an acting editor would insert such correspondence without referring te his chief when his return was so soon expected, especially as he ia the person who could give a reply. Mr Walker knew this as well as I do, and I cannot understand his sudden eagerness to refute a statement made 12 months ago, which hg has allowed to go uncorrected so lone. If incorrect, it ought never to have been =made and should at once be apologised for, thon»fc obtained upon such authority as a chfei and his people.'but Mr Isitt U quite capable of answering for himself. I can only say that if Mr J. M. Geddes gives a correct account of Mr Seddon'g remarks to thi natives, we prohibitionists can quote th{ words of the highest authority injj eff Zealand in denouncing the liquor, and ma' well be excused for asking that it be pro! hibited as a protection to white as well a; native population. —£ am, etc., W. J. Macdermott Commercial Road, Oct 23rd, 1397.
