BANKRUPTCY.
MEETING OF CRED[TORS
A FIRST meeting of creditors of Henry Lipscombe, fruit importer and produce dealer, was held this morning, Mr John Lawson (Official Assignee) presiding. There were present the bankrupt and his solicitor (Mr Ngata) and four creditors. The bankrupt's sworn statement, as already published, showed unsecured creditors £189 6s 4d and book debts £36 13s 4d, estimated to produce £10. Mr T. Neil] (Tooman and Co.) said that he knew what the importation of fruit was and the losses that could be incurred thereby. He thought that bankrupt should be allowed to retain his furniture. He moved, " That the bankrupt be allowed to retain his furniture and that- the Official Assignee facilitate his discharge as early as possible." Mr W. Gunson said that he would second the motion, but at the same time he did not think that Mr Lipscomhe's style of doing business was to be encouraged. There was nothing to be got by opposing the discharge. Mr Lawson remarked that on public grounds Mr Gunson's remark was hardly proper. If the creditors were satisfied that the bankrupt had acted recklessly it was not consistent to pass such a resolution. The motion was then put and carried without dissent. THAMES BANKRUPTCIES. A meeting of creditors of Antonio Sarich, miner, of Waiotahi Creek, was held at the Thames on September 29th. It was resolved to adjourn the meeting until October 13th, to enable bankrupt to consider the advisability of offering a composition to his creditors of 5s in the £. At a meeting of creditors of John Heenan, miner, Opitonui, held at the Thames on September 27th, it was resolved that the Official Assignee be requested to do all in his power to oppose the bankrupt's discharge, and that steps be taken for the public examination of bankrupt.
