The Newcastle backers of James Wray, an Australian sculler, are trying to arrange a match with Towns. They offer Towns three seconds start in a nice tor £.100 aside, to bo rowed on the Tyue. Tom Sullivan. Liv; ex-New Zealamlcr, has challenged W. Harris, of Putney, to race on the Tyue for I'-JUO a side. Towns has expressed his willingness to row Wray on the Tyno if the latter will concede him live seconds start. Ernest Caviil and McCusker have boon matched to swim a-quarlcr of a mile at Westminster on October 2lsth, and half-a-mile at Leicester on October f!Oth. Should these events prove indecisive, they will meet in a 300 yds race at Manchester. The stakes are £li) 0 a-side. J. A. Jarvia, the Midland Counties champion, and Percy Caviil have arranged to swim a-quarter of a mile match, which will take place in a fortnight.
