Some very candid criticism was indulged in at a recent meeting of the Melbourne Trades Hall Council on the subject of sweating in that city. One member said he had authentic information from a female friend that she had only made os 6d for a week's work in a clothing factory working nine hours a day. It was time the workers combined to put down sweating, for at the present time they were the greatest supporters of it. Tlieir wives bought the stuff that came from the sweaters' dens. The workers themselves were the cur?e of the whole community. They were the sweaters, and ought to be well ashamed of themselves. This little speech caused a mild sensation.
