NORTHERN COMPANY'S MOVEMENTS.

Friday.—Wellington leaves for Whangarei, Marsden Point, Whangarei Heads, and Mangapai at 10.30 p.m.; lon a for Kuaotunu', Mercury Bay, and Kennedy's Bay afc 9 p.m. Thames Service.— Steamers leave for Thames, Paeroa, and Coromandel daily. See advertisements daily papers.

The barque Woosung will load produce at the Bluff for Sydney. The s.s. Upolu left for Raratonga and Tahiti early this morning. It is expected that H. M.S. Miklura will remain here for three or four weeks. The barque Broughton has been fixed to load produce at Lyttelton for Auckland. The barquentine Neptun is now being thoroughly overhauled and repaired by Mr G. Niccol, who ir'ends to place her in the intercolonial trade. The departure of the Anglian from l Wellington has been postponed until this afternoon on account of the gale. She wnl arrive here on Monday and leaves for Sydney on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The barquentine Golden Rod to-day finished her loading of kauri gum for New York, and she will drop out into the stream this evening. Her cargo consists of 4,404 cases and 178 bags of kauri gum.

QUARTERLY SHIPPING RETURNS. The quarterly shipping returns for the period from July Ist to September 30th have been completed by the Customs. These show that during that period 18 sailing vessels of 6,950 tons, and manned by 171 hands, and 39 steamers of 55,716 tons, and crews of 2,055, have been entered inwards. Of these vessels 4 were from the United Kingdom, and 5 were from America, 29 from New South "Wales, 2 from Norfolk Island, 9 from the Islands of the Pacific, and 1 from Cape Colony. The nationality of the vessels entering inwards was as follows :—United Kingdom 6 colonial 46, and American 5. The 'clearance statistics show that 17 sailing vessels of 1,003 tons, with 155 men as crews, and 36 steamers of 43,750 tons, with 'crews numbering 1845, left the port. Island 1, America 5, Friendly Islands 5, and Cook Islands 4. Of these vessels 2 were registered in the United Kingdom, 44 were colonial, G were American and 1 was Norwegian.
