GOVERNMENT VALUATIONS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —In your leader of August 11th you made very good remarks respecting tilts valuation which I quite agree Avith, as there are so many things depending on it that it should be done carefully, which is the wish of the Government. And to have it done carefully and honestly the valuers should be men of good, sound judgment and years of experience—men who Avill go over the property and see for themselves.not to judge by report of others or by chance; for how can anyone tell the value of property without seeing it? Had the Government left the selection of valuers to the people, both parties would be better served and more satisfied. Scarcely any two farms in a district are of the same value—the Government land sales Avill decide that—and if the Government have inexperienced valuers, as I fear is the case in some instances, there will be great dissatisfaction. Before the valuation is put into law I think the Government, by some means, should inquire hoAv the valuations Avere made, and Avhere the Avork has not been satisfactorily done it should be re-valued.—l am, etc., A FARMER.
