Spring Meeting j some sensation Avas caused by the support I accorded the South Australian colt Fleet Admiral, Avho Avas backed for the Mcl- \ bourne Cup to win £15,000 at prices rang-1 ing from 1,000 to 15 to 1,000 to 30, Avith 100 to 4on offer. Not a liloav was struck on the Caulfield or Melbourne Cup, 1,000 to 70 being on offer on the field for the former event, AA'ith Trent, Wait-a-bit, Foliage, and Amberite as nominal favourites; and 1,000 to SO on the field for the latter, Avith AVait-a-Bit, Aurum, and Positano nominally at the head of the quotations. For the V.R.C. Derby Aurum and Amberite were the only horses mentioned. Aurum Avas firm at 7to 4 on. A Avager. of 200 to 50 Avas booked about Amberite, Avith 100 to 30 on offer, and 10 to 1 bar 2. The backing of Fleet Admiral for the Melbourne Cup created no little surprise, as recent advices from Adelaide state that the colt, Avho had been short of Avork Avhen he ran for the S.A.J.C. Derby, and pulled up lame after the race, Avas likely to be given a three months' spell, but a private telegram Avas received trom Adelaide stating that the colt is in work.
