Calcutta, Septemher 2. A COLUMN under Colonel Gordon, safely traversed the Kohat Pass.
A force under Lieut.-Col. Gr. L. R. Richardson, Commandant of the 18th Bengal Lancers, proceeds to Kurron, and while on the march will leave reinforcements strengthening the Samona forts. Colonel Blood reports that the defences of Chakdara are insufficient, and that the enemy, who are under cover, are able to command the fert.
Reports received from Madras state an outbreak has occurred at Malabar, due to fanatic Mollahs, but that the rising is not at present of a serious character.

Constantinople, September 2. The Sultan has sent numerous presents to the Ameer of Afghanistan.

The latest reports from the frontier state that the Swatis are surrendering their arras.
A number of rebellious tribesmen murdered and robbed the native levies holding Gazarbundost, a British post in Beluc.histan. A cavalry ferce is pursuing the murderers.
It is reported that the delay in despatching the military expedition from India to suppress the Afridi rising is owing to Lord George Hamilton's authority not having been re-
