Details of the Recent
Fighting.
Two Hundred Tribesmen
Killed
Calcotta, August 30. It is estimated that six brigades will be required to coerce and disarm the Afridis.
Five thousand tribesmen, mostly Shinwaris, are guarding Khyber Pass.
The dissensions amongst the Afridis arose over the division of the booty.
Captain L. C. Gordon, of the Funjaub Garrison Battery, stationed at Kohat, has been despatched with a force to relieve Somana. lie has orders to force the Kohat Pass.
Details of the capture of Landi Kotal fort show that the Afridi sepoys stationed on the wall exchanged greetings with their rebel clansmen outside, and then treacherously opened the gate of the fort from within.
In the fighting which followed two hundred tribesmen were killed.
The Afridi sepoys on leave at Tirah belonging lo the Punjau'o Infantry loyally rejoined their regiment.
Further details of the fighting at Landakai stale that Lieutenant-Colonel Adams, of the Staff Corps, under a heavy fire, attempted to save the wounded. Lieutenant Greaves, in attempting to save whose body Lieutenant McLean was killed, displayed great bravery, facing a party of swordsmen single-handed.
The Orakzai tribesmen gathered in the vicinity of Fort Gulistan hold the country for a distance of two miles.
Many women and children are in dnnger at the Hill Sanatorium at Ziaret, near Kelat, a town aud fort on the Tarnak.
