AN ASSOCIATION MATCH.
AUCKLAND DEFEATS THAMES.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL WINS THE COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP.
The Association match between Thames and Auckland took place on Saturday afternoon, ab Pobter's Paddock. Owing bo the bad weather, bhe attendance was not large, and the state of the ground was nob conducive bo scientific play. Mr W. Hoabher acted as referee, and Messrs A. Smith and S. Cave as linesmen. Wright sbarted play for the Thames, and in a short while somo clever pissing by the local backs ended in Vl Heabuer scoring a goal. Auckland, 1; Thames, 0. The Home team renewed the abtack, and Mai-land, the Thames eoalkoeper, failing to clear smartly, C. Heather charged him through between bhe posts—2—o. Aboub halt-way through the firsb spell C. Heather increased Auckland's score by kicking another goal—3—o. After this Thames assumed the aggressive, and a tine dribble by Wright, in which he was ■upported by Griffin and Benbley, enabled the first-named to send the ball between the ports. 3-1. A little while after a fine screw kick by V. Heather, from close to the corner flag, narrowly missed bhe goal. No furbher score was made during tbe spell. In the second half a clever dribble on the parb of V. Heather ended in thab player ecoring another goal. 4 —l. Later on Wright scored for Thames, and just before the call of time bhe visitors secured another goal, the game ending io a win for Auckland by one point. Auckland 4 Thames 3 GRAMMAR SCHOOL v. KING'S COLLEGE. Considerable interest was taken in this contest, which was played ab Epsom on Saturday lasb, and alter a very evon game won by the Grammar School's reps, by 6 points to nil. The winning points were gained in the firsb spell, when the Grammar School reps, had the advanbage of the wind. From a free kick near the halfdistance James Te Paa landed a goal by a fino kick, and shortly afterwards bhe same player from a passing run secured a try. Immediately afterwards Clark, for King's College, made a splendid dodgy run and had passed all the Grammar School backs when he slipped and an opponenb fell over him, hurting his nose so badly thab he was unable to take tbe field again. This was unfortunate for bhe College, as Clark was their best back. In the soeond spell bhe play was fasb and even, bub no further scores wero made. By this victory Grammar School win the College Championship. Mr Pelham, as referee, gave every satisfaction. OTHER MATCHES. P. Hayman anb Co. v. H. B. Partridge AND Co.—This mabcb, which wae played ab Pobter's Paddock ended, in a draw, neither side scoring. Mount Albert v. Tabernacle.— The former won by 20 points to nil. Standard v. Alberts. — An exciting match ended in a draw, no score being made on either side. Roseberrt v. Excelsior.— The latter won by 16 points bo nil. Trios were obtained by Dnnn, Somers and Tong (2), and a goal was kicked from a mark. Carlton v. Epsom.—Carlton won by six poinbs to nil. Lawrence and Edwards each scored a try. Western Star v. White Rose.—The latter won by three points bo nil. For the winners Coughlan scored a try. Richmond v. Clarence ll.—Richmond defeated Clarence by 10 points to nil. Rovers v. Federals.—This match was played in the Domain, and after a wellfought game the former won by 17 to 9.
