ggThe barque Bella sailed from thoKaipata this morning for Sydney, with a cargo of timber.
The three • mashed schooner Elizabeth Price was berthed at the Railway Wharf to discharge her cargo of hardwood.
The B.s. Taviuni took from this porb a large quantity of tofcara piles and planking for the Union Company's wharf ab Tonga.
This morning H.M.s. Goldfinch lefb for Wellington via the East Coast. According to present arrangements she returns here from Wellington about the middle of next month and then proceeds to Rarotonga.
Mr Darroch'a new twin-screw auxiliary scow Oban, which has been fitted with oil engines, went oub this afternoon for a trial trip. The Oban is to run between this porb and Waipu, and is considerably above the average of her clasa in appointments and efficiency.
The b.b. Poherua has jusb completed an interesting cruise to the Islands. On April 24th ehe lefb Westporb with 1,000 tons of coal, with which she went to Sydney Island (where aboub 50 tona coal was transhipped to H.M.e. Penguin, which was employed in deep eea sounding), Fanning Island (where 300 tons of coal was pub ashore for the use of H.M. ships), Palmyra Island (where H.M.s. Penguin was supplied with 120 tons more coal), Lambassa and Suva once more. On Jane 2nd Captain Smith received instructions bo come on to Wellington, where she arrived towards the end of last month.
The Tyser steamer Sfcar of Victoria arrived early this morning from Sydney, with a cargo of general merchandise from London. She is in charge of Captain Willis, formerly chief officer, Captain Stevenson having relinquished command owing to illness. The Star of Victoria had an uneventful veyage to Porb Philip.- She lefb London on the 25bh of April, and Portland on the 28th. Fair weather prevailed to arrival ab Las Palmao, where she replenished bunkers on the 4th of May. She encountered fresh N.E. trades to lat. 12deg. N. and moderate S.E. trades. From St. Helena bo the meridian of the Cape the wind was fresh from the ft. and N. W. The easting was run down on the parallel of lab. 46deg. 8., under N.W. breezee, with fine, though foggy weather. From the meridian of Cape Leu win to Cape Otway strong N. and N.E. winds and heavy seas were met with. The Otway was passed on Sunday, and Hobson's Bay was reached on Monday. After discharging ab Melbourne she called ab Sydney and then came on to this port.
