Ab the meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Comrnnrce yesterday a letter was read from bho Customs Deportment at Wellington sbabing that Messrs Porter and Co. had ottered to construct ft magazine at Kohimaratnara providing that no other magazine was licenced but theirs during a period of 14 years. The ordinary meeting of bhe Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Granamar School wag held yesterday afternoon in the Board's office, Victoria Arcade. There were present: Sir G. M. O'Rorke {Chairman), Rev. C. M. Nelson, Prof. Brown, Hon. Col. T. M. Hauitain, Hon. J. A. Tole, and Mosera R. Udy, S. Luke, and YV. J.Speight. The correspondence included a memo, from the AuditorGeneral, in connection with the Board's balance-sheet, tnkinsr exception to several items. Amongst these was the item of £84 paid to the Rev. Canon Nelson for services rendered as actingniaster at the Grammar School while the Governors wore securing the services of a new master in one of the departments of the school. The AuditorGeneral considered that Mr Nelson could not justifiably take tho money, aa he waß a member of the Board of Governors afe the time, and should, therefore, refund the money. It was decided to reply that the Local Bodice' Contractors Ach did not apply to the Board of Governors, and that there was nothing to prevont Air Nelson from being legally employed by the Board. An amount of routine business was also transacted.
