THE CITY HALL.

A programme ot exceptional merit was presented ab bhe Popular Concert lasb evening, and the spacioas City Hall was well filled. The limelighb views were in illnstrabion of bhe heroic deeds of bhe Empire, famous places and notable celebrities of the Queen's reign, finishing with a Beriea of photos of the Record Reign celebrations in Auckland. The pictures were first-class reproductions, and were greatly appreciated. Mr P. R. Dix acted as descriptive lecturer. The remainder of bhe programme was equally successful. Miss M. Myles was encored for her solo "Jessie's Dream," which was sung wibh limelighb effects. Later on Miss Myles rendered with baste bhe ballad •• Sparkling Streamlet." Misa Fitzpatrick Bang "Dublin Bay," and "The Mirror," both of which were enthusiastically encored. Mr Archdale Tayler Bcored with his character song " They've all got a Mate but Me," and " The Fascinating Fellow " proved as attractive aB ever. The dueb " No, Sir," between Miss Fitzpatrick and Mr Tayler, proved an enjoyable item. Mr Leslie Dix was heard to advantage in " Tho Shopwalker," which with Master Lorking'a recitation, " Reporb from Below," caused greab amusement. Mr Bryanb gave a clever ventriloquial act, which was much appreciated. The accompaniments were effectively played by Miss Lily Thomson, who also played an overture with taste and precision. A souvenir photograph of tho audience of the previous week wbb presented to each of those present lasb evening, at the close of the performance. " ■"*•
