A very intereating and valuable gold discovery has been made near the Weiti Creek, Mercury Bay. The gold is powdered all through a series of tine iron stone stringers running in various directions through the country rock. The gold is plainly visible in these stringer*. It also occurs in ironstone modules, in such cases being very rich. The surface prospects are something wonderful, several ponny weights being obtainable to the dish. Ib in estimated that a man would easi'iy earn good wages by dishwashing the nurface. The extent of the deposit has not yet been ascertained, but it is evidently large as the prospector got eplendid results right up the side of the spur. The gold is found in the largest quantities ab the greatest depth yob reached, about six feet. Curious to say the Now Zealand Exploration Company had men prospecting for some months in the locality, and their trenches can be seen a few chains away from the rich depwsU on the opposite side of the earns spur. The discoverer of this valuable deposit Is a Mr Mclßsuch Bush, manager for the Kauri Timber Company. The deposib is on this Company's Weiti leasehold block.
