The matter will come up for consideration ab the next meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union. A public meeting was held this evening at Hamilton Eaefc in order to arrange what stepa should be taken to join in the record reign celebration. Very little interest was manifested in the movement, and the attendance was very small. Three or four suggestions were put forward, including the laying of a bicycle and running track, and general improvement of Sydney Square ; to entertain all the school children ab Hamilton and surrounding districts aba huge picnic ; and to tender a dinner—probably the last they would ever have together—to the old identities and their wives. A committee consisting of His Worship the Mnyor and Meatrs Halloway, Edgecumbe, Sandes, Hammond, Salmon, Young, Manning, Blackburn, LeQ.ueene and llnox were appointed, and it is probable thab they will, if possible, do something which will combine the whole of the suggesbione pub forward at the meeting. Thfe branch of the Sb. John Ambulance Socie% has decided nob to commence the.

classes this winter until July llfck on account) of the holiday intervening. Ohaubo. Ab the meeting of the Waikato Fruitgrowers Association, held hero a day or bwo ago, the Secretary, Mr Ohyo, read a telegram ho had forwarded to the Minister for Lands upon the aubjecb of the appointment of delegates to the Queensland Conference, complaining that although the North Island had two-thirds more land in orchard than the South, the latter had two delegates to the former's one, and asking that two more delegates should. be appointed on behalf of the North. The Minister replied that Mr Fitchie was now in this district, and he would communicate i witfchhim upon the subject, As yet), however, nothing mora has been heard of the matter. The Secretary also contributed a paper upon "Spraying," for which he was thanked. The members expressed themselves in favour of spraying by compuleiou, if an effective specific could be discovered. At Messrs McNicol and Co.'s last sheep fair of the season, held on Wednesday, about 10,000 sheep were brought forward, including several big lines from Hawke's Bay and Galatea, which sold readily ab good prices. The top price for big framed ewes empty (local) waß 9a ; fat ewea, 9s, and real good wethers 10s 6d. An excellent demand existed, and nearly every lob was quitted ab satisfactory prices. Pobts has secured aboub 1,000 acres alongside bis own farm on the Te Awa-mutu-Ohaupo Road, so that apparently there are still some people who have considerable faith in the future of the district. Ngaruawahia, Monday. On Saturday afternoon the Ngaruawahia and Hamilton football teams met here for the firsb time this season. Mr H, H. Davy, of Auckland, officiated as referee. Heavy rain fell during nearly the whole of the match with an occasional shower of hail jusb by way of a change. Disputes were of frequent occurrence, and Mr Davy had a lively time of ifc. In the first spell the home team simply overran their opponents, and ab the conclusion of the first spell the score stood Ngaruawahia 6, Hamilton 10. In the concluding half, however, the Delta team showed lack of condition, and the tide began bo turn. Hyde, for the visitors, obtained a try which Moore converted, and jufib before the close of the game a second try was obtained, the Hamilton beam thus winning by 8 to 6.
