PARNELL ORPHANS HOME.
There waa a good attendance laab ovoning ab the meeting of the Orphan Home Truab Board, Parnell. The Rev. Canon Nelson presided. The annual report was road by the Hon. Secretary, Mr J. B. Gilfillan, and the stabemenb of accounts by the Hon. Treasurer, Mr Walker. These reports •appeared in yesterday's issue. The Rev. Canon Nelson (Chairman of the Board) moved bhe adoption of the report, and in doing so complimented the Board upon the result of bhe year's operations. Ab tke Bame time he pointed out that in the near fubura ib would be necessary to erect a new and substantial building in place of the preaenb one, that was now nearly 37 years old. For this purpose the public would have to be approached in order that bhe capital should nob be entrenched upon, aa that meanb a lessened income wherewith to maintain the orphann. He felb no doubt that the public would willingly respond to aßßist Bach a good cause. , . .. Mr T. W. Doonin also spoke on similar lines, after which the motion was agreed
Offiobks.—The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Board of Management, Captain W. Fraser, Messra T W. Doonin, J. B. Gilfillan, T. Rueaoll, ll'oberb Walker, W. S. Whitley ; auditors, Mossrs E. VVaymouth aod C. A. Jonas. Before the visitors zeparabed they were supplied with iighb refreshments and also shown over the Home. Distribution of Pjuzes.—Mrs Nelson distributed the prizes to the children who secured the requisite number of votes at the recent examination, the following being the recipients :—Standard I. : Frank Eade and Alex. Hewlett, 1, equal ; Echel Harp and Vera Read, 2, equal. Standard 11. : Daisy Keilly. 1, ; Ebbel Clarke, 2. Standard 111. : Elizabeth Harp, 1 ; Walter Slade, 2. Standard IV. : Elizabeth Newell, 1 ; Bertie Chester, 2. Sbandard V. : Fred Warburton, 1; Bella Murphy, 2. Standard Vl* : Miles Murphy, 1; Edith Mason, 2. Examiners' prize, Milea Murphy. Primor I : Edith Henderson, 1. Primer 11. ; Charles Dix, 1 ; Tinie Henderson and Florence Dix, second, equal. 'Sewing prizes: Standard 1., Ethel Harp; Staudard 11., Ethel Clarke; Standard 111., Mary Oleson; Standard IV., Elizabeth Newell; Sbandard V., Jennie Doau ; Standard VI., Dinah Hendrick ; Primor 11., Florence Dix. Scripture (oral) : Georgo Murphy. Honorary Secretary's prize for good conducb (boys); George Holt. Mrs J. B. GilfiH&n'a prizo for good conducb (girls) : Ethel Read. Tho winner for i.his prize lanb year, M*ggie Doan, was equal with Ethel Read, bub she having received the prize previously, it was now awarded to Ethel Read. A special prize was awarded Mnggie Doan. It was announced that the Honorary Secretary, Mr Gilfillan, and Mr«s Gilfillan intended giving additional prizes for both boys and girls during the ensuing year. Before the meobiog separated, votes of thanks were accorded the ladies of the Committee, hon. medical officer, examiner, hon. secretary, and hon. treasurer, the Chairman specially referring to the excelleDb work done by bhe latber two gentlemen. ___
