THE RYLEY CASE.

Dunedin, Thursday. •At the Supreme Court to-day John Ilyley was charged with breaches of the Bankruptcy Act. Mr Haggifct, Crown Prosecutor, conducted the case for the prosecution, and Messrs Sim and Fraser appeared for the defendant, who was allowed to sib benide his counsel. Tbe indictment contained 21 counts, founded on various clauses of the Bankruptcy Acb. Tbe h'rsc counts dealt with the charges of failing to keep booka which were usual and proper, and doing bo with intent to conceal the true position. Then he is charged with making payments for shsires. etc., out of the business from which £20,000 had been withdrawn, and going in ior rash and hazardous speculations. He is further charged with contracting debts without reasonable expectation of being able to pay them, and with giving undue preference in payments made. The hearing of the cage was nob coucluded. *
