MANAGERS BANQUETED BY MR HARTRIDGE.

Last night, ab the Star and Garter Hotel, a grand farewell dinner was given by Mr Harcridge to the mine rnaaagora of the English mines here and his aWn personal frionds on the occasion of his approaching departure for London. There wan a large and representative gathering present, including a uumber of Aucklandere, who mado a special trip. The whole fuuclion, which was really of a very important character, inasmuch as all the controllers and supervisors of' English capital here were brought directly into touch with a Homo representative of bheae companies, passed off most successfully, and will long be remembered by those presenb. Mr Harbndge occupied the chair, having on his rights Captaiia Argyll, and on his left Captain Hodge. Trenchant remarks were made generally on the position of the mining industry here, nod a highly hopeful view was taken of the outlook for tho future. During the evening choice musical selections were played by

c. string band, and interspersed with toa»ts, vocal items being rendered effectively by scoral of the guests present. Special reference must be made to Mrs Skrlne, whose beautiful voice was hoard to great, advantage. Proceedings terminated about 12 o'clock with enthusiastic cheers for Mr ana Mrs Harferidte and the singing of the National Anthem by till present. Thetollowingi* the toast list: "The Queen," proposed by Mr Hartridgo; "Mining Industry," proposed by Mr Hartridge, responded by Capb. Argall and Capo. Hodge ; "Visitors," proposed by Mr Cox, responded to by Mr J. M. Sharp ; " Press," proposed by Mr G. D. Ingall, responded to by Messre Rhode?, Dabaker, Bell and King. The toast of the evening, "Mr Hartridge," was proposed by Capt. Argall; " Host and Hostess," proposed by Mr J. M. Sharp, responded to by Mr VV. N. ytehr.
