AUCKLAND'S ANNIVERSARY.

ANNUAL REGATTA TO-MORROW,

To-mokkow the 57bh anniversary of bhe foundation of the colony will be celebrated in the usual manner by the Auckland annual regatta. The Union, Company's fine steamer Te Anan is to be the flagship forthe day, and will be moored off tbe Queen-streec Wharf. The firat race uto starb ab 9 a.m., and later in the day there will, no doubt, be a good attendance on the flagship to witness the races, especially the rowing events in bhe afbernoon. The Regatta Committee have succeeded, alter considerable difficulty, »n raising the necessary funds for prizamonev, and will, no doubt, be able to pay the prizes in full. Tenders will run bo and from bhe flagship and the Qaeen-atreeb Wharf during the day, and ab the conclusion of the laab rowing race the flagship will .steam down the harbour aa far as the Rangitoto beacon and back. The admission to bhe flagship ia fixed at Is 6d for adults aud 6d for children. Hunter's Artillery Band will provide the music ou the Te Anau during the day, and a lunch will be obtainable on board.

Last ovening a meeting of; the Auckland Annual Regatta Committee was held ab the Waitamaba Hotel, to complete arrangements for the Regabta, Mr A. H.Nathan presiding. The entries handed in on Monday nighb Were accepted, and additional entries, one from bhe Willie Winkie for the trading cutters race and one from tbe yacho Waimarie for the cruisers' race, were alao accepted. Mr R. S. Reynolds waa appointed as starter of the sailing races. The hon. treaeurer stated that the subscriptions and entrance money now totalled upwards of £260 with come entrance fees to come in. The times of starting the various races were decided on. It was decided that the flagship (e.s. Te Anau) should start on a trip down Rangitoto Channel and back ab bhe conclusion of the rowing races. The prize money was stated to tobal £231 2a, which will be covered by the receipts. A deputation of four owners of small yachts (the Tui, Cynthia, Seabreeze and Rewi) waited on the Commiiteo, asking that a race for boats of 22ft and under be placed on the programme. The Committee acceded to the request, the prizes being fixed ab £2 and trophy for firab prize, and £1 and trophy for the second boat. In bhe naval cutter race the inferior boat of the two Auckland Naval Volunteer crews was allowed five minutes start of bhe other two competitors. The course for thia race was arranged to be from the flagship round the Watchman, finishing ab the flagship, lb was decided that all competitors in the naval cutter race must be volunteers whoso names were on the Brigade office rolls ab bhe time of entry. The handicaps for the Marshall sculla were referred back to the haodicapper, asking him to take the 'inference of the boats into consideration. The programme of events waa finally revised, and a barrel race waa placed on the programme instead of the tub race. The ss. Vivid will act as tender to the flagship, and wil! commonco running from the man-of-war step-* ut 8 a.m. The ste-im launch Despatch nil be used aa starters' boab for bhe various events.

To-morrow, which will be a public holiday, there will be cheap railway excuraiona to P»eroa, Te Aroha, Rotorua ami Okoroire. A special train will leave" Auckland ab 7 a.m., returning trom Paeroa at 4.10 p.m., and arriving in Auckland ab 11 p.m." The Northern S.s. Company's steamer VVakabere will leave on an excursion to the Great Barrier at 9 a.m., returning aboub ten o'clork at nitrht ; the Clam-man will leave for Mahnrange Heads and tho Wellington for Waiwera at 10 a.m., and the c.a. Arj/yle tor Ruth* Inland, VVaTheko, at 9 am. The al camera Ki*i Ora and Rose Ca.*>ey will run excursion; to Pu'iki Bay, Waiheke Islnnd. The Devonport Ferry Company will also run excursions to Lake* Takapuna and St. Holier* Bay during the day.

The ladie*-' whaleboat race, which bakeß place at 2.45 p.m. to-morrow ab the Regatta, ahould be worth seeing. Mr Evora, of the VVaitemata-City Rowing Club, has succeeded in obtaining two crews of ladiea, one of which will row in tbe colour* of the Waitara Rowing Club, crimson, and white, for Mr Alfred Cox. No. 1 crew, steered by Mr Evers, will conaiab of Miaaea Smith (stroke), Evera (2), Ruth and Townaend, while No. 2 crew will moat probably conai-rt of Misses Scarborough (2), L. James, Smith and Brett. A crew of native women from Orakei ia alao oxpected to take parb. A souvenir card of the race will be on sale on the flagship to morrow.
