GORDON CHALLENGE SHIELD.
Tub seventh annual competition for the Gordon challenge ahield took place on Saturday afbernoon ab bhe Mount Eden Range, under bho supervision of Quarter-master-Sergeant Kearaley, of the " A " Battery. The Victoria Rifles "A" team won with 392 points, the " A " Babtery B. being second with 37-., and tho Ponsonby Naval Artillery A third with 3GO. Each of these three teams win money prizes of 50, 30 and 20 per cent, of the amount of entrance fees, find sale of sighting shot tickets, after paying expenses. The highest individual scorer was Sergeant HabsweSi of the" A " Battery B. team, who secured 91. The Victoria "A " team who won scored as follows : — Captain White, S7 ; Private Krachmar, 84; Private Proston, 78; Private Kelly, 74; Lieutenant Cox, 69 ; total, 392 points. Eleven teams of local volunteers competed. This is bhe third bime the compabition has been fired wibh bhe Martini-Henry rifle, and bho firsb mabch for the shield was fired in 11891, when the Gordons won ib.
