FIXING THE HALF-HOLIDAY,

The annual conference of delegates re " Shopß and Shop Assistants' Act, 1894," and amendments was held at noon today in bho Mayor's room, Municipal Buildings. The business ot the meeting was bo fix upon a weekly half-holiday for the year in terms of the Act. There were present: Mr A. Boardinan (Mayor of Auckland), Cre. Jamieson and Tien with, Mr J. VV. Shackelford .(Mayor of Newton), Mr J. Thorpes (Mayor of Parnell), and Mr J. M. Laxon (Mayor oi Newmarkeb.) Mr Boardman was elected Chairman of the Conference. Air Teen wibh moved, "That Wednesday be the day on which bhe half holiday be observed." He said it had been proved beyond doubb that Wednesday was the best day. Mr Thornos seconded, and bhe mobicn was pub and carried. This ended the proceedings.
