MONTHLY REPORT.
Auckland, January 21
Prices have shown no material alteration during the past month and steady business has been done ab current rates. Exports have been in excess of supplies, consequent upon two vessels that partly loaded in December counting in this months outpub. Much of the gum sent in latterly is of poorer grade as the dry weather has enabled the diggers to work the swamp land. Supplies from mail to mail are 466 tons. Exports since lasb mail are :—To New York : Clan Macleod, 255 tons. To London : Anglian, 17 tons ; Rotomahana, 61 tons ; Tasmania, 61 tons ; Waihora, 36 tons; Silverstream, 150 tons ; Star of Victoria, 52 tons. The Motley is loading for New York, and the Glenlora and Chili for London.
Prices are quoted as follows :—
The young man Marcus McDowell, who was fined £45, with costs £3 18s at Paeroa on Tuesday for having 1,544 uncustomed cigars in his possession, was brought down by Constable Beatty from Paeroa by train this afternoon. The alternative, in default of payment of the fine waa fixed at six months imprisonment.
