FAREWELL BANQUET TO MR JNO. A. WAUCHOPE.

A dutober of gentlemen interested in mining matters met ab the Star Hotel on January _th to bid farewell to Mr Jno. A. Wauchope, M.F.1.M.E., F.R.G.S., prior to leaving for England. Amongst those present were bhe following :■— Mr R. James (direotor and mining engineer to bhe New Alburftia G.M. Company),. Mr Q. A. McConnell (London and New Zealand Finance Corporation, Limited), Professor Tilden, and Mr P. M. Hansen (the New Zealand Consolidated, Limited). Mr James, in a tow well-chosen remarks, expressed the general regret felb at Mr Wauchdpe's departure, and presented him with a gold Maltese cross pendanb, beating a suitable inscripbion. Mr Wauchope feelingly responded, and in thanking tho.e present for drinking his healbh expressed the hope of being back again among his Auckland friends in six months bitrie. PRESENTATION TO MR G. WILSON. On January tith a large and representative gatheritig of mining men and friends of Mr George Wilson, &he new Governmenb mining engineer, who is severing his connection with bhe district as mining inspector, assembled in the banquet hail of the Star and Garter Hotel, Cordmandel. Capt. Hodge occupied the chair, being supported on the right by bhe guest of the evening, Mr Wilson, and Mr McGowan, M.H.R., «nd on the lefb by Capb. A. R. H. Swindley, who proposed bho boaab of the guesb of th_ everting, and at bhia juncture a handsam. illuminated address was read by Mr Simmonds, Clerk of the County Council, and Captain Swindley presented to Mr Wilson a valuable pair of field gla.se*. The presentation of both was followed by long applause. In reply Mr WHsOrt said fchab he felb proud of the distinction they had conferred upon him and of the address with which he had been presented—a lasting memento of Coromandel friends. On January 7th a largo gathering took place ab Mr Cowan's dining room, Kuaobunu, where some thirty mine managers and friends meb to presenb to Mr G. Wilson a beautiful illuminated address, prepared by the Auckland Star's artist in his best style. Ib was acknowledged by all to be a work of arb. showing several batteries and scenery in Kuaotunu. Capb. Richards, who occupied the chair, in a few well chosen remarks introduced the guesb of tbe evening, Mr Wilson. There were also present: Mr Brown. Engineer of Maoriland and Irene English Companies; Mr McKay, Government Geologist; Mr Sheppard. Mining Engineer ; Mr Cormboy, Road Engineer ; also Mr J. Stuarb, of Opito district. The presentation was made by Captain A. 11. Riohtrds, who eulogised Mr Wilson's ability and congratulated him on hi_ promotion. He also, on behalf of bhe mine managers, desired Mr Wilson bo accept of a handsome silver teapob as a gift to Mrs Wilson.

Mr Wilson responded in feeling terms, and expressed, astonishment ab the handsoma presents mude to himself and wife.
