The annaal meebing of tbe New Zealand Swimming Association was held on Dec. 21, representatives of East Christchurch, Wangariui, Napier, Auckland, Blenheim, Hubb Valley, Wellington, Christchurch, Richmond, New Brighton, Obaki, Sydenham, Lybtelton, and Ashburton Clubs being present. Tbe Pahiabua Club was affiliated to the Association. Sir R. Stoub and Mr R. W. Sb. Clair were nominated for the office of president. Tbe former was elected on tbe casting vote of the Chairman. Mr J. G. Smart was elected secretary.
A meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council was held at Christchurch on Wednesday, December 9th. Present: Mr J. 11. Wood (Nelson) in the chair, the Hon. E. C. J. Stevens (Auckland), Messrs W. H. E. Wanklyn (Taranaki), J., A. Fowke (Auckland), G. A. U. Tapper (Southland). J. A. Collins and C. A. Tree week (Wellington), A. Fairbain (Obago), H. D. Carter and T. D. Harman (Canterbury), and C. R. Smitb, honorary aecretary. Tbe accounts fer the New Zealand match showed the receipts to be £585, and the expenditure £504 7s. Of the profit of £81, the sum of £60 15s wont to the Canterbury Association. The statement of accounts of the whole tour showed—Receipts : Auckland Association, £223 10s ; Wellington, £150 ; Southland, £150 ; Otago. £151 16s 9d ; New Zealand match, £585 7s: total, £1.260 13s 9d. Expenditure : Australian eleven, half of tbo gross takings in the five matches (exclusive of stand receipts in tbe New Zealand match), £811 18s 2d. Expenses: New Zealand match, £267 Is 6d ; share of profit to Canterbury Association, £60 15s; expenses of delegates accompanying the team £25 15s Id : total. £1,165 9s 9d. The profit to the Council over the whole tour was £95 4s. The following programme of matches for the Queensland tour was decided upon :—Auckland, December 22 and 23; New Zealand match at Wellington, December 26, 28, and 29; Hawke's Bay, December 31, January 1 and 2; Cankerbury, January 8, 9, and 11; Obago, Janoary 15, 16, and 18; Southland, January 20, 21, and 22. As to the match with New Zealand, the Secretary stated that the Wellington Association offered to givo up their match in favour of that with New Zealand. They, however, had not given a guarantee for that match, though they had for the provincial match. After discussion, ib was resolved, "That the New Zealand match be played at Wellington on December 26, 2S, and 29, provided tbe Wellington Association agrees to share the risk equally with the Council, in whidh caso the Association also shares the profits in the same proportion. It was resolved to ask the provincial associations in the event of their making a profit over the Queensland matches to allocate 10 per cent, to the Council.. The time at the disposal of tbe Council beint. limited, Messrs Fowke, Tappin, and Smith were appointed selectors for the New Zealand team. It was decided to write to Major Wardell asking if arrangements could be made for a visit of Stoddart's team to New Zealand next season. In reference to points that cropned up oa the finish of the Australia-New Zealand match, it was resolved to ask the ruling of the Marylebone Club :—(1) When a match actually finished ; (2) when time should be called ; (3) whether the umpire has power to allow for what he considers waste of time.
