MAYORAL INSTALLATIONS,
Mr A. BuarduQan, tho new Mayor of Auckland, was installed on December 16th. Mr Boardman is a native of South Lancashire. Ho arrived in Auckland on tho '28th of January, 18lt4. E'or many years he held various offices under tho Colonial Governmenb, and ib will be remembered thab he was general manager of the South British Insurance Company until ill-health compelled him to resign He was also Secretbary of the Agricultural Company which cut up into alloLmento and dinpoaed of the Surrey Hill estate. Mr Boardman was for years an active member of the Ponsonby Highway Board, and while Chairman largely assisted to gob the wostern suburb to join the city. The Three Lamps owe bheir oxisbenoe in a greab measure to Mr Boardman, who obtained from the directors a donation of £20 towarde the erection of tho well known lend mark. Mr Boardman waa ab one time a member of the Ponsonby School Committee, and when Ponsonby wa* officially joined to bhe city he was one of its ward members: He was also a member of the Harbour Board and a trustee of 'the Auckland Savings Bank. Mr Boardman has always taken a prominent part in the affairs of the Anglian Church in Auckland, and for seventeen years continuously represented All Saints' Church in the Synod, as one of ita representatives. Mr J. Thornes, recently nominated and reburned unopposed aa Mayor of Parnell borough, was installed in pffice ab the Borough Council Chamber* on Dec. 1$ Ab Mr Belt's installation as Mayor of Wellington, ha said bhab from bho returns he had obtained he waa convinced they had an anxious and difficult year before them. The overdraft would be £15,000 nexb March, • against £10.500 lasb March. He intended to lay proposals before the Council wbifjh hp hoped would place the finances oa a more satisTSSioryßliiii.
