THE AUCKLAND ROADS.
(To the Editor)
Sir, —T notice in your lesue for Tuesday a shout; paragraph calling attention to the rough state ot tho roads owing to the quantity of loose*metal. Surely this is due fco tho faulty construction. If they were properly macadamizd they would not bo as they are. May I ask whose fault ib is? I am a cyclist, lately from the South, and must say that tho roads thero are vastly superior to those in and about Auckland. Is there a lack of metal, that so much dirt and filth should bo used for what is termed " binding," and which is nothing of the sort, aa ie simply gets worked out by the traffic, leaving the roads in a state of dust, loose metal and holo3. Apart from the danger and discomfort to those using vehicles, surely the health of the community Bhould ba considered, as it is well known the material used for the so-called " binding " cannot do otherwise than spread germs of various diseases.—l am, etc.. Observant.
