FIRES IN THE SOUTH.

MR T. Taxsf.f.'s fine country renidence of 22 rooms at ltiveralea, near Hastings, was totally destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning. The fire broke oub in the centre of the building on the ground floor, and when discovered is had obtained^ a greac hold. The flames spread with astonishing rapidity, rind tho occupants had tho greatest diflicuity in escaping from the burning building. Mr Tar.uor lost all hie private papers, and every stick of furniture wan destroyed. The insurances are: Norwich Union, £3,300 on the building, and £1,700 on furniture. The reinsurances era : Now Zealand, £1,000; National, £900; Standard, £600; North Gorman, £500. Nothing is known ac to the origin oi the tiro. Dn.N'EDis, this day. At Arrowtown Robert Pritchard'a store, Campbell's butchery and McKonzie'e fancy sooda shops wero burned down yesterday afternoon. Tho insurances are : Fritchard'a stock. National, £1,000, buildins?, £300; Campbell, Manchester, £200. WcKenzie was uninsured.
