The Precsier, sa explaining tho measure, admittod that ib asked for very larga powers, buo aaid that if in committee tba Treasurer's powers couid be doSned within practicable and warkable limits he would bo pleased. A section of the labour party strongly opposed the Bill, and an excited BCODO was the result. Eventually the closure wa3 applied, A Bill to amend tho Suppression of Gambling Bill pasoed last year v?a3 introduced. Tha principal provisions are tbab it ahalt bo unlawful to oOer for sa'a any ce-.vapaper_ or other publication containing an advertisement relatissr in any way to latteries, &leo unlawful to prinfcor publish any notice as to the whersaboats of aay person c&rrying on 2-amblinK business outside of tha colony. Tho Posfc Office may refuse to transmit or deliver any postal matter _ roferrin? to gamblinff, and offenders are liable to afins of £100, "or in default six months' imprisonment, or both fine and imprisonment.
