Tho Conference of representatives of Country Municipalities, to consider the Constitution Amendment: Ac 6, resolved to petition the Le^ielativo Council to reject the Bill. Strong objection was raised to giving; womon the vote. 16 was stated that 90 por confc of tho women had nothing to bo roaponpibi'e for, asd that there were not fivo thousand rospeetablo womea who wanted to vote —there were simply a few who were always whining about tbo sins of fcho world, and these wanted to vote for a epeci'tl purpose. Tho shifting and shiftloflfl population, including women, whom it was propoaod to enfranchise, would bocouie the dominating power. The new departuro, it waß contended, would bo mischievous and against the interests of the ratopayers and producer**. A proposal bo givo ono vote for manhood suffrage, another for thrift, and to conflna womanhood suffrage to women ratepayers, waa largely supported.
