Paderewski's Daily Life.
Paderewski rises, as a rule, about ten o'clock on days when he does not give c concert or in travelling. On days when he i 3 to play in the evening he i-Isas ao ouo.
By way of morning meal bo takes a cup of cofl'ae or tea—nothing elee, not even a roll or morsel of bread.
He pracbiaea usually for five or six hours each day on a piano which ho has senb to his room in the hotel aa soon as he arrives in the city.
When he has an afternoon concert he doea not practice ab all, however, and if tho concert is an evening one he devotes only two or three hours bo exercising on the keyboard. In order bo strengthen hie tinkers he playa only five-finirer exercises.
Like a prize - fighfcer who i.« ?n training, this musical abhleto devotes himself to a systematic course of gymnastics for strengthening all of the phyaical powers which are called into play by hia performance at the piano.
Those long, slender ' piano ' fingers are put through their paces until they acquire strength, flexibility, agility, and staying power.
More than this, his arms also have to be strengthened. For this purpoee he employs an apparatus which he designed and had made himself. What this i?< he knows, and nobody else. — ' Ladies' Home Journal.'
