PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tnr. ordinary fortnightly meeting of tho Parnell Borough Council waa held last evening, when there wore present:—His Worship tho Mayor (Mr Sponcer Yon Stunner), Mrs Matson, Os. Thornes, Thomas, Fitb, McConnell, Wright, Pago and Briggs. Recreation Reserve.—lb was decided that the Public Trustee bo oflered certain lota of tho borough's cndowmenta at Punakitore in exchange for the four allotments at Blackott'a Point, which the Council wiahcd to socure for a recreation
ground. Balfour-street.— Messrs Frater and Son^wrote asking the Council to inspect Balfour-street with a view to levelling it before scoria was laid down.—lb waa decided to inspect bhe locality.
Charitable Aid Rates.—The Taranaki Charitable Aid Board wrcbo drawing the attention of the Council to tho present unfair syatem of raising charibable aid rates. They considered bhab bhe whole of the revenue required for charitable purposes ehould be a charge on the consolidated funds of tho colony.—A motion waa pnnsod expressing sympathy with bho Board's views.
Dust Sf.rvice.—The Legal Committee recommended that Mr Casey's contract price for the removal of dusb be raised from 16s lOd bo 18s.—The recommendation was adopted. Streets Committer's Report. — The Streets Committee recommonded that the bop end of Maraton street be kerbed and channelled on bobh aides.—lb was decided bo proceed with the work nt a cost of £8, and thab Earl-atreeb bo kerbed and channelled aba coat of £18.
Valuer. —It waa resolved to call for applications for the position of valuer at a salary of £25.
Returning Officer.—Mr Gilmer, the Town Clerk, waa appointed returning
officer.
