THE MINISTER FOR LANDS.
Di'Xedin, this day
Tho Minister for Lands, speaking at Naßeby, warned the electors &gnin?t independent Liberals, urging voters to vote for honast supporters of their opponents or the Government. Re borrowing, ho said there was a groat deal of hypocrisy in the House, as eight members opposed to borrowing asked the Government for over £204,000 for their several districts. Judging by the returns for six month?, the Government would meet the House with a substantial surplus next year. He sometimes feared the Council was merely a shop for the manufacture of Conservatives. Six of the twelve apostles were already straight out opponents of the Government). He began to think roforra was impracticable. The Council should be abolished and appeal made direct to tho people. It was cortain the Ministry would be returned, and they would bo prepared to carry on the aanso policy. Among the new measures would be a Bill providing for tho auditing of accounts of all public companies by a public auditor. The Fair Kent Bill must be passed as a whole. State Fire Insurance and Old Age Pensions will be pressed forward. A vote of confidence was carried.
