OUR GOLDFIELDS.
THE SHARKIHAKaIET.
An* improvemenfc was noticeable on the Exchange today as far aa buyers were concerned, which is most probably the first ripple of the incoming wave of bu3inoas. High-priced stocks ware in demand, 47s being offered for Woodstocks, 15? 4d for Talismans, 40s for Waiotahi?, and £4 5e for WaitekaurU, but no sales resulted. This improvement in eharea in English companies may to some extent be explained by a cable which appears in this issue, ia which tha American correspondent of the London "Times " states that bank deposits have increased fifteen million dollars last week ; also that four million shares were sold oh the Exchange during tbe fortnight. As our market U now practically ruled by London, any improvements in England wiiJ soon be felt here, and goad business may yet be done before the Christmas holidays. The fine retorn from the VVaitikauri mine, coupled with tha dividend declared last week, should alao have a beneficial effect, as far as New Zealand mining stocks are concerned. Waihi-Silvartono have, how ever, declined in London, as a private cable states these shares wore offered under par. In locally-held stocks Bunker's Hills continue in good demand free, sales being made at 5a 6d, with steady buyers at a penny less. Many of tha cheaper stocks were also inquired for to-day.
