CONSECRATION OF THE RIGHT REV. DR. LENIHAN.
Extensive preparations have been made in connection with the consecration of the Right llev. Dr. Lenihan to the Catholic Bisnopric of Auckland, which takes place to-morrow mortiing ab Sfc. Patrick's Cabhedral. The Cathedral has been very prettily decorated with festoons and wreaths, and ab t,he entrance a large five-sided arch has been erecded to be covered with flowers and greenery, and to bear appropriate devices. The frieze over the divisional arches between bhe new portion of bhe building and bho old will be in white letters on a crimson ground Ecce Sacardos Magnua ( %I Behold the High Priest.") Uader the large arch above the altar has been placed large medallions bordered with flowers of various kinds, particularly arum liiies, and bearing the names of the past Bishops of the diocese. One medallion bears the names of Bishops Pompaliier and Croke, anobher of Bishops Steins and Luck. In the centre is another medallion wibh the name of Bishop Leniban noafcly lettered upon it. Tho lettering has been the work of Captain Blackmore, and tho decorations are being done by Mr J. Daly, assisted by Mr Mac Dona, Mr P. J. Norheny, and a number of young ladies.
Solemn High Mass and the consecration ceremony begin ab 10 a.m. Biuhop Grimes, of Christchurch, will bo the consecrating bishop, and the agsistanb prelates will be Bishop Gallagher, Titular Bishop of Andrassaand Coadjutor Bishop of Goulbourne. New South Wales, and Biehop Terdon, of Dunodin, tho preacher boing Bishop Gallagher. Milliard's Solemn Mass in G., Romberg's "Te Deum," and Stein's "Ecce Sacardos," will be sung by tho choir, which will be strengthened for the occasion by a number of the leading musicians of Auckland. One of the features of the occasion will be the procession of some 40 priests from the Presbytery bo the Cathedral, passing through a guard of honour formed by bho Hibernian Society.
Aher the ceremoay the clergy presenb will be entertained ab dinner at tho Bishop's Palace in f onsonby, by the new Bishop. In the evening Vespers will bo held, commencing at eeven o'clock. The Right Rev. Dr. Grimes will preach, aud special music wili be sung by the choir.
