Phillpot, will ba present. .. , ■ j « Tho next criminal sittings of the Supreme Court of Wellington will be opened nexb Monday, when ex-Defcectiva Kirby, whose sentence was deferred pending the decision of the Court of Appeal, will be brought up for sentence. The report of the Wellington United Farmers' Go-operative Association shows that the nab profits for the year amounted to £3.431, in addition to which a sum of £1,152 has been placed to the reserve account. A dividend of six per cent, is recommended. For the intercolonial band contest which is to be held in connection with the Wellington Exhibition on the 30th and 3isb December and lsb January, the Newtowa Band, Sydney (which won the recent contest at Sydney), and the Paramaeta Band, Sydney, have entered. An interesting historical relic in the form of an old Tower musket formerly used by Hongi, the great Northern warrior, has been presented to the Auckland Museum by Mr S. Percy Smith, Surveyor-General. This musket was given to Hongi Hiko, afterwards known as "The Man-eater," by George IV. of England in the year 1820. In connection with the forthcoming floral fete at Elleralie, it is announced that ladies will be otlered the amount of firab and, second prizes in gloves if preferred, and gentlemen in pipes or a small article of jewellery. Entries are extended to the 21st insfc. The train fares, including admission to the erouad, are Is 6d adults and 9d for children.
