Hawkra, thic day. The inter-provincial match, Obago v. Taranaki, was played yeetorday afternoon. Heavy rain fell the night before and at interval's during the day, making the grouDd eofb, buß in fairly good order. There was a large attendance, estimated at about 2,500. Taraaaki ware sfcronp favourites, and level money was laid that Ocago would not cro3* Taranaki's line. The apatne waa most stubbornly contested, and won by Taranaki by 8 points to 6. Taraaaki did not play up to tho form shown against Wellington, and during th« first spell Wataon, their best forward, injured his collar bona, and though he resumed play after a time he wae practically useless. Bayly and H. Geod also goo a severe shaking through collisions, and afterwards were not seen to irreat advantage. Otago played a splendid game throughout. Their style of playing withoufc winys nonpluaned Taranaki. Duncan, for Otago, played a magnificent trame, and probably the beet back game on the gronnd.
