giEENOODs efforts are still being made by the Auckland Racing Club to secure a permit to work the total ieabor ab the First Spring Meeting. Ib ia now proposed to ose the permit of a cettain outside club ff bich has failed to pay it.s way. The matter was under consideration of the Committee yesterday afternoon. Next week the Club will no doubt make known their Goal decision. Meanwhile, Mr Hayr jiaoxiouato secure the A.R.C. First Spring Meeting dates if the programme is withdrawn to hold a meeting at Avondale. The programmes of the Auckland Racing dab for the season (including that of the First Spring Meeting) of 1896-97 have been issued from the Star Office ia the usual peat)'book form. They have already been reviewed in these columns. The following (re the names of the stewards for the season :—Messrs W. R. Bloomfield, Richard Duder, G. R. Bloomfield, A. Clark, J. Kirk wood, H. T. Gorrie, Alfred Kidd, W. D. Holgate, H. 0. Nolan, J. C. Smith, VT. McLaughlan, N. A. Nathan, J. Uusboll, H. Thompson, J. P. A. Philson and Colonel Dawaon.
