Wellington, Augusb 27. — Arrived : Southern Cross, s.s., from Auckland and tho Easb Coasb. Timaku, Augusb 27.—Sailed : Handel Lush, barque, for Auckland. Sydney, Augusb 27.—Sailed : Tarawera, 5.8,, for Auckland. The Aorangi. Wellington, August 27.—Information been received by cable from London that the R.M.s. Aorangi, which was recently purchased from tbe New Zealand Shipping Company by Mr James Huddarb for the Vancouver mail line, is expected to be ready in six months. The contracb for bhe alterations and improvements has been given oub, and provides for the replacing of tho present compound engines with triple expansion engines, capable of driving the vessel at a speed of 16 knots. The whole of the cabin accommodation ia to be refitted in modern style, and the latest improvements for the safety and comforb of passengers are to be provided. The cable advices state thab these alterations and improvements are to cosb no less a sum than £40,000. Tho Aorangi will be the largest steamship crossing the Pacific from Australasia to America, and she has been specially acquired to perform tho proposed mail service from New Zealand to Canada in conjunction with the other steamers of the Canadian line.
